What we collect, and what we don't

What we collect

• •Your email address, so we can send your receipt and download links.
• •What you bought, so it stays in your library and you can download it again.
• •If you create an account, a display name if you give one.
• •If you subscribe, the fact that you consented, and when.

What we deliberately do not collect

• •Your card number. Payment is handled by Stripe and never touches our servers.
• •Your raw IP address. Download logs store a salted hash, which cannot be reversed into an address.
• •Your full browser fingerprint. Analytics records a rotating hash, not a durable identifier.
• •Anything from third party advertising trackers. There are none on this site.

Why we log downloads

Each download is recorded so we can tell whether a delivery failed, and so a shared link cannot be used indefinitely. The record contains which file, when, a salted hash of the address it came from, and the family of browser: the word Chrome or Safari or Firefox, not the long identifying string browsers send. It is not used to build a profile of you.

If you subscribe to the list, a salted hash of your address is stored alongside the date you confirmed. Canadian anti-spam law requires us to be able to show that consent was given, and a hash is the least we can keep and still do that.

The calculators, and what analytics records

The free calculators run entirely in your browser. Nothing you type into one is sent to us, and nothing you type is stored anywhere, on our servers or on your device. Close the tab and it is gone. The downloadable copies do the same thing with no internet connection at all.

One event is recorded when a calculator is used: which calculator, and nothing else. Not a figure you entered, not an answer you got, not a rounded or bucketed version of either. The same is recorded when someone downloads an offline copy. Alongside it we store a rotating hash, the host a visit came from, and the time.

• •The hash is built from your address, your browser and today's date, so it is different tomorrow. It exists to count people rather than visits, and it cannot follow you from one day to the next.
• •The referring host is kept without the rest of the address. If you arrived from a search or from a forum thread, we store the site's name and discard the search terms and the page.
• •Analytics sets no cookie, writes nothing to your browser's storage, and takes no fingerprint. Two other parts of the site do store something, and they are listed below.
• •If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, nothing is recorded at all. Neither signal is binding in Canada. We honour them anyway.

What is stored in your browser

Two things, and neither is used to track you. Saying otherwise would have been simpler and would not have been true.

• •Your cart. A list of product ids in your browser's local storage, so a cart survives a reload. It never leaves your browser except when you check out, and prices are recalculated on our side at checkout, so editing it changes nothing about what you pay.
• •A sign-in cookie, only if you sign in. It is what keeps you signed in, it is set by our authentication provider, and signing out clears it. If you never sign in, it is never set.

There is nothing else. No advertising cookie, no analytics cookie, and nothing that follows you to another site.

Email

We only email people who asked to be emailed, and confirming twice is required before anything is sent. Every email has a working unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect immediately. We do not buy email lists.

Who else sees your data

• •Stripe, to process payment.
• •Our database and file hosting provider, to store your order and deliver your files.
• •Our email provider, to send receipts and downloads.

Nobody else. We do not sell or share customer data.

Asking us to delete it

Ask, and your account and personal details are deleted. Order records are kept where required for accounting, with personal details removed.
